Casting a Vote for the Next Celebrity Book

While it’s easy for many to write off celebrity books, some celebrity titles are more highly anticipated or even critically acclaimed. My vote for a celebrity book that would actually be worth reading goes whole-heartedly to a certain lanky, ginger-headed ex-late night host. Now that NBC has finally settled its sandbox war, it looks like Conan O’Brien will have some free time on his hands before starting a new television project. I’m not necessarily advocating a memoir, but I could see him putting together a solid collection of personal essays on humorous topics. Have you read his Harvard Commencement speech for the Class of 2000? And if that doesn’t convince the more serious critics, try this on for size: the man wrote his senior thesis on the use of children as symbols in the works of William Faulkner and Flannery O’Connor. He may be quirky, he may be goofy, but he’s an intelligent guy who handled the recent (and very public) NBC drama with the appropriate amount of wit and humor—and a whole lot of class. So instead of seeing “Going Rogue to the Extreme” on bookshelves next year, I’d love to see what Conan can do…and I’d love to see it packaged with a book cover that features his fantastic hair.
